To unlock Tree of Decay, you must buy the mastery study "Unlock Tree of Decay" which costs 1e95 TT, after obtaining 16 Nanofield rewards. Once bought, you are immediately brought into a new tab with it displaying your unstable quarks and upgrades. You will get the achievement "Do protons decay?" when you unlock Tree of Decay.
The Tree of Decay has three branches, one for each color of quark. Each branch has 2 corresponding currencies: unstable quarks and quark spin. Quarks assigned to a color can be converted into unstable quarks of the same color. Unstable quarks will slowly decay into quark spins at a rate of 50% every 16 seconds (this can be increased/decreased with red/green/blue branch upgrades).
The unstable quark exchange rate is:
let x: log10(quark/1e420+1)
if x<2: x=max(log10(x/9.9e301)/60,0) (if quark<9.9e421)
let UQ exp: branch upgrade 2 level-Radioactive Decay Power(see follow function)
x=2^UQ exp*x
if x>1: x=x^(2^(UQ exp+1))
return min(x*2^(Radioactive Decay Power+1),10^2^51) (cap unstable quark at e2.252 Qa)
function Get Radioactive Decay Power
let x: Radioactive Decays
let y: max(x-5,0)
return x*25+(y^2+y)*1.25
Quark spins can be used to buy upgrades that affect their branch of the tree, as well as other upgrades, located in the fourth tab.
The branch-specific upgrades control the rate at which quarks decay and how much spin you will get from them. The upgrades are as follows:
Description | Base cost | Cost growth |
---|---|---|
Gain 2x quark spin, but quarks decay 2x faster.
Note: This upgrade has lower effect starting from level 120. Past level 120: each level gives x1/2 instead. Past level 360: each level gives x1/3 instead.(and so on) Between level 60*(n-1)*n and level 60*n*(n+1), each level gives x1/n. |
300 | 2x
Past level 15: 8x (at ~9.83e6) |
The gain of unstable quarks is multiplied by x and raised to the power of x.
(x is multiplied by 2 per upgrade.) |
50 | 4x
Past level 8: 8x (at ~3.27e6) |
Unstable quarks decay 4x slower. | 4e7 | 8x
Past level 7: 16x (at ~8.39e13) |
There are 8 additional upgrades in the "Tree Upgrades" tab. They all cost red spin at first, but will cycle through red, green, and blue when an upgrade is bought. It will increase in cost each upgrade.

After reaching e1.126 Qa(10^2^50) unstable quarks and ghostify once, you can buy an upgrade called "Radioactive Decay", which will greatly decrease unstable quark gain, but also boost the power of the first upgrade. Radioactive decays are unique to each branch and can be bought multiple times, with each successive purchase further reducing the amount of unstable quarks gained.
Each time a radioactive decay upgrade is bought, the name of the unstable quarks will change from simply "unstable quarks" to "radioactive unstable quarks", "infinity unstable quarks", "eternal unstable quarks", and "quantum unstable quarks". After buying the upgrade more than 4 times, they will gain an additional prefix, "ghostly", which is incremented similar to powering numbers (^2, ^3, etc).
